In-Building Codes: What They Are, and How They Affect You and the Hardware You Buy

Earlier this year, national fire codes were released that not only mandate in-building radio coverage enhancement for first responders, but make that requirement retroactive to existing buildings. This year marks APCO International’s 75th anniversary as an association and its 76th Annual Conference. If you want to be inspired and invigorated and give your career a boost, then Houston is the place to be this week! Coincidentally, this year also marks the 40th anniversary of Apollo 13, and Captain Jim Lovell, who commanded the Apollo 13 mission and brought her crew safely home, will be the opening keynote speaker (Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, 8:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m.). With the words, “Houston, we have a problem,” Lovell demonstrated a calm command presence in the face of the oxygen system failure that could have doomed the mission.

3 Senators Join Public Safety’s Fight for the D Block

July 29, 2010

On July 21, the Public Safety Alliance and 40-plus national organizations supporting its position, took their message of public safety D-Block allocation and funding for the nationwide public safety broadband network to Capitol Hill. They were joined by Senators Joe Lieberman and John McCain, who introduced the First Responders Protection Act of 2010 (S. 3625).

Access to critical data and images from parole, probation and corrections databases gives law enforcement an accurate picture of an individual’s past violations, as well as their parole or probation status. Nlets and ARJIS have worked to implement a pilot program called the Nationwide Corrections Image and Information Exchange for sharing this data.

San Francisco Bay Area Selects Motorola for Public Safety 700 MHz LTE Broadband Network

July 29, 2010

San Francisco Bay Area have entered an agreement to build a 700 MHz LTE system. As part of the Bay Area Regional Interoperable Communications System (BayRICS) plan, the system will serve multiple agencies across the greater bay area, including San Francisco, Alameda County/Oakland, Contra Costa County, as well as the cities of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. This broadband system provides an overlay to the existing Project 25 standards based IP cores and networks.
