Two Dispatchers & Cop Fired for Fake Crime Scene

Public Safety Communications September 22, 2010 Industry

Fort Myers, Fla. – According to a Fox News story by Joshua Rhett Miller, a Florida police officer with the Fort Myers Police Department and two dispatchers have been fired for faking a report of a possible crime. The plot was concocted in order to reunite the officer with his estranged ex-girlfriend, who is also an officer with the department.

The two dispatchers agreed to aid the plot by issuing a fake report about a suspicious person. One dispatcher gave a description of the person as “a black male wearing jeans and a T-shirt, looking into car windows at the Edison Mall’s parking lot.” The call was sent to multiple units, resulting in four officers responding to the scene, including the ex-girlfriend.

All three were fired for knowingly providing false information. An internal police report reads, “The [officer] apologized for his actions and stated that he was in love with [his ex-girlfriend] and just wanted to talk to her.”
