Winter Storm Delays 9-1-1 & Emergency Response for Infant
December 31, 2010New York City — After multiple unanswered 9-1-1 calls, a three-month-old boy was left brain dead after snow-clogged routes prevented EMS from reaching him quickly. Unplowed streets later forced the EMS personnel to ditch their ambulance and sprint with the ailing baby to the hospital.

December 28, 2010Lancaster, Pa — Today, Lancaster County-Wide Communications employs 76 full- and part-time dispatchers at its state-of-the-art facility in Manheim. When the department was created in 1971 as the Lancaster County Public Safety Communications System and was housed in the basement of the old county almshouse on the grounds of Conestoga View Nursing Home, there were six dispatchers manning the now-antiquated, plug-in switchboard.
