Western Will County Comm Center Deploys Exalt Microwave Backhaul Systems

Company Representative January 4, 2011 Product & Service Announcements

Exalt Communications announced today that Western Will County Communications Center (WESCOM), an emergency services dispatch organization serving western Will County, Illinois, has deployed Exalt microwave backhaul systems to carry mission-critical voice and data traffic between its operations center and first responders. WESCOM serves nineteen agencies near Joliet, Illinois, providing dispatch radio services for seven police agencies and twelve fire protection districts that safeguard an estimated 300,000 residents. The Exalt systems have replaced leased dedicated phone lines in the dispatch network backbone, eliminating monthly recurring costs, dramatically improving overall network reliability, and providing a rapid return on investment.

The Exalt all-outdoor systems were deployed by A Beep, LLC (www.abeep.com), an Exalt partner located in Joliet, Illinois. The systems use the 4.9 GHz frequency band, which is reserved for public safety use in the United States. Thanks to Exalt’s superior technology, the systems provide fiber-quality connectivity over distances of up to 15 miles with “five nines” reliability, even during harsh winter snowstorms. Each Exalt system is configured to provide 4 T1 lines for VHF radio traffic plus 55 megabits per second of Ethernet traffic, which the organization plans to use for remote site monitoring and eventual integration with a similar Exalt system in nearby Grundy County, Illinois.

“Public safety agencies like WESCOM, whose networks are truly mission-critical, are tasked with finding ways to ensure the highest network reliability while leveraging every available dollar in their budgets,” said Amir Zoufonoun, president and CEO of Exalt Communications. “We help meet these challenges by providing systems that deliver carrier-grade reliability, are easy to deploy and manage, eliminate costly leased lines, provide rapid payback, and ensure painless network migration from TDM to IP – benefits that enable public safety agencies to run more efficiently, prepare for the future, and better protect their first responders and communities.”
