APCO International Announces Formation Of Broadband Committee

Public Safety Communications January 26, 2011 APCO

Daytona Beach, Fla. —  The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced today the formation of its new Broadband Committee.  The committee’s primary function will be to review public safety broadband applications in use today and make solid recommendations to meet the ever changing need for mobile data and the future need for mission-critical voice capabilities.

“APCO is pleased to have established its Broadband Committee today,” said APCO President, Bill Carrow.  “We envision this committee being in the forefront, of current and future issues on broadband use as it relates to public safety.”

The APCO Broadband committee will be occupied with leading public and private sector experts from around the country including Chair Bill Schrier, City of Seattle CIO, and Vice-Chair Andy Seybold, CEO and Principal Analyst of Andrew Seybold, Inc.

Schrier was inducted in May of 2010 as the first fellow of the Public Safety Foundation of America (PSFA) for his thought leadership, dedication to public service and contributions to public safety through technology innovation. Vice-Chair Andy Seybold is one of the most respected and influential analysts in the wireless industry today. For more than twenty-five years, he has served the industry and shaped initiatives for world leaders of the wireless industry, including Verizon, Nokia, AT&T, Motorola, and Qualcomm.

“Bill and Andy have both been instrumental in moving forward the effort to allocate the D block to public safety, and demonstrate a thorough commitment to effect positive change through technology nationally,” Carrow said.
