Daytona Beach, Fla. — The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced today the launch the APCO Project 33 Training Program Certification – 2010 Telecommunicator online application program.

“APCO’s Project 33 is the one and only ANSI standard for telecommunicator training,” said APCO International President Bill Carrow.  “Since its inception, 17 agencies have been certified under the 2006 edition.  We look forward to many new agencies submitting their training programs for certification under the revised standard.”

The APCO Project 33 Agency Training Program Certification is a formal mechanism for public safety agencies to certify their training programs as meeting the Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators.  The standard specifies the minimum training requirements, in general, of personnel assigned to the public safety telecommunicator function, but recognizes the need to supplement these basic competencies with agency-specific information and existing equipment-use parameters.

The online application program will streamline and simplify the application process for applicants. “For many years APCO International has established competent training standards, which effectively prepare trainees to better understand their role and responsibilities within both public safety and related public service occupations,” APCO International Executive Director George S. Rice, Jr. said.  “This new online application program will make it easier to apply and understand the requirements for the certification.”
