FCC Issues Notice about Meeting of Emergency Response Interoperability Center Public Safety Advisory Committee

The notice, published in the Federal Register on April 28 states: “In accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act, this document advises interested persons that the FCC Emergency Response Interoperability Center Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) will hold its second meeting on May 24, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room of the Federal Communications Commission.”

Virginia Beach, Va. — When a gunman opened fire at an apartment building in Thalia in March 2008, killing or injuring five people, the city sent an automated message to neighborhood residents warning them to stay inside. The message, though, didn’t go out by cellphone or e-mail.

Leaking Mass. House Dials 9-1-1 for Help

Marblehead, Mass. — After months of enduring a leaking pipe that buckled its floors and sagged its ceilings, an empty Massachusetts house somehow called police for help. The Salem News reports the 911 call went out to police from a house in Marblehead on Wednesday after water short-circuited the phone system, apparently sparking the emergency call.
