FWT Works with Kennedale, Texas, on 9/11 Memorial

Company Representative April 8, 2011 Product & Service Announcements

9/11 MemorialKennedale, Texas — April 6, 2011 — The City of Kennedale (TX) is collaborating with Chamber of Commerce member FWT, LLC in the construction of its 9/11 Memorial to commemorate those who lost their lives during the World Trade Center events, and the subsequent search and rescue operations. When it became known the Port Authority of New York was accepting applications from communities across the United States for recovered portions of the WTC for use in memorials, Mayor Bryan Lankhorst and others within the city, contacted the Port Authority, submitted the design concept, and were granted approval. A dedication ceremony for the memorial site was held on March 14. Kennedale and Pantego fire department vehicles, Kennedale Fire and Police Department honor guards, and local dignitaries participated in the ceremony

A thirteen-foot steel girder, showing obvious signs of the massive destruction unleashed upon the WTC, will be used as the center focal point of the sundial memorial. The column will be surrounded by five walls, each commemorating a different aspect of the historic day in American history.  On September 11 of each year, the shadow of the column will pass along the northwest wall, crossing points signifying each major event at the same time at which the events occurred.

9/11 MemorialFrom ground level, weighing 3800 lbs., the column will rise to a height of 14 feet and will be approachable from all sides. Materials and colors consistent with those at the WTC are being used throughout the memorial, and will be illuminated at night by concealed lighting.

FWT, LLC is a manufacturer of steel towers and poles used in the utility transmission and distribution industry, as well as support structures (mobile and stationary) for the telecommunications industry. FWT will design and fabricate the base plate that will support the column for the memorial, leaving the original girder intact and unaltered from the damage it sustained during the September 11 events.
