Canada Celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunications Week Too!
The professionals who provide emergency 911 and dispatch assistance to people across Saskatchewan are being recognized as part of Emergency Telecommunicators Week, which runs from April 10-16, 2011.
“It’s important to honour the dedicated emergency communications personnel who play a critical role in the success of emergency response,” Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. “This week is an opportunity to offer appreciation to the telecommunicators who make life-saving decisions every day to help keep our citizens safe.”
The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) endorses this special week across Canada. This year marks the ninth year that the province has celebrated Emergency Telecommunicators Week and the contributions of Saskatchewan’s 911 operators and other emergency service dispatchers from police, fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who handle emergency calls.
The Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing is responsible for Sask911 operations, in partnership with SaskTel who provides technical support.
