Ashburn, Va., June 9, 2011. The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces that Iveta Topalova, Solutions Architect at Microsoft, has been selected as the Vice-Chair of the IJIS Institute’s Emerging Technology Committee.

Iveta Topalova is an architect for Microsoft, concentrating on enterprise solutions architecture, technical interoperability, agility, scalability, and sustainability. Iveta specializes in the area of homeland security, criminal justice and public safety information sharing. In addition to the IJIS Institute Emerging Technologies Committee, Iveta is also a member of the IJIS Institute Technical Advisory Committee. Iveta is an IJIS Institute national representative to the Global Infrastructure and Standards Working Group Services Implementation Committee (GISWG-SIC), the Services Task Team (GISWG-STT), and the Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management Delivery Team (GFIPM DT). Iveta has also contributed to a number of IJIS Institute Technology Assistance projects.

Committee Chair Matthew D’Alessandro, Motorola Solutions Justice and Public Safety Senior Business Development Manager, selected Topalova for the Vice-Chair position, citing her “demonstrable dedication, hard work and motivation related to Committee activities” as the reasons for her selection. D’Alessandro further stated, “Ms. Topalova has a long standing, proven track record with the Emerging Technology Committee including authoring white papers and as a presenter in the Committee’s New Horizons in Information Sharing seminars.”

The Emerging Technology (ET) advisory committee addresses technologies that are believed to be new and emerging as they relate to the justice and public safety domains, not necessarily new technologies overall. Prior to assignment or adoption by the committee, each technology is reviewed by discussing its merits. The white papers created by committee members include a description of the technology, how it is used, its risks, applicable use cases, best practices, relative costs, and industry references. The committee is vendor agnostic and provides an industry view of technologies. The Emerging Technology advisory committee also develops advisory materials and briefings for industry and government on important emerging technologies that support justice information sharing through technology.

In her capacity as Vice-Chair, Topalova will work with the committee to provide high level information on technologies with the potential to be of greatest benefit to decision-makers in the justice, public safety and homeland security areas via the creation of white papers, presentations at major national conferences, and webinars. In her new role on the committee, Topalova will aim to provide useful information assisting those who implement these technologies enabling the saving of time and money.
