9-1-1 Industry Alliance Names New Board of Directors and Officers for 2011 – 2013 Term
ARLINGTON, VA., June 30, 2011 — The 9-1-1 Industry Alliance (9IA), the public safety industry association advancing the nation’s emergency communications and response infrastructure, is building on the organization’s momentum and success with the expertise of a new board, executive leadership and expanding membership.
The 9-1-1 Industry Alliance (9IA) today announced the successful completion of elections to its Board of Directors as well as its new officers for the 2011 – 2013 period. The officers for 9IA are as follows:
- Kevin Murray, Chairman (CEO, Mission Critical Partners)
- George Heinrichs, Past Chairman (President, Intrado)
- Bill Campbell, Vice Chairman (Senior Vice President, Intergraph)
- Paul Fahey, Secretary (Director, Cassidian Communications)
- Allen Amis, Treasurer (CEO, 911 Inc.)
In addition to the above executive committee, 9IA will be led by the following Board Members:
- Joel McCamley (Senior Vice President, L. R. Kimball)
- John Melcher (President, The Melcher Group)
- Dan Sawicki (Director, Motorola Solutions)
- Kim Robert Scovill (Senior Director, TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.)
“9IA serves to urgently answer the need to update America’s public safety emergency communications and response infrastructure,” said Kevin Murray, chairman, 9-1-1 Industry Alliance. “Our growing membership includes many of the world’s most respected public safety industry companies, and we look forward to the continued growth of our alliance to bring greater awareness of the technology and policy challenges many agencies around the country face.”
As previously announced, George S. Rice, Jr. has been named as the organization’s new executive director and will assume the position effective July 1. Prior to joining 9IA, George served for five years as the executive director of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO), the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit professional organization dedicated to the enhancement of public safety communications.
“I am very pleased to be working with the 9IA Board of Directors, a great group of industry leaders passionate about public safety,” said George Rice, executive director, 9-1-1 Industry Alliance. “As a team, we will continue to be adamant advocates for enhanced funding to public safety and to promote accountability among state and local policymakers so that funds collected as 9-1-1 surcharges will only be used for life-saving systems.”
The 9-1-1 Industry Alliance is also pleased to announce its newest member, Direct Technology, a leading technology consulting firm. Direct Technology will be represented to 9IA by Fred Michanie, President.
Finally, 9IA will host a national workshop on 9-1-1 overload on October 4-5, 2011, at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center in Washington, D.C. Public safety decision-makers and government officials are being invited to engage in a national dialog on this important problem, which affects people in need of help due to incidents ranging from routine emergencies to major disasters.
