NEW SOLUTIONS FOR NEW BERN, NORTH CAROLINA
The new turnkey simulcast 700/800 MHz P25 radio system, slated for completion in mid-2012, will provide New Bern first responders with enhanced radio coverage, improved safety features and interoperable communications. Additionally, the new radios will operate with local and state government public safety agencies, as well as non-governmental public service entities throughout North Carolina.
“Our goal is to harness all of our mission critical information and create one clear picture to keep our radio communications strong, and our citizens safe,” said Frank Palombo, New Bern’s recently retired police chief. “As such, we need a flexible, robust solution that will help New Bern migrate to state-of-the-art technology without costing a fortune – and CII’s network provided the perfect fit.”
More than 500 Harris Unity® XG-100P full-spectrum multiband portable radios will be distributed among the city’s police, fire, and public works departments, as well as CarolinaEast Medical Center, the local hospital.
In addition, CII is integrating Harris Corporation’s VIDA™ (Voice, Interoperability, Data and Access) platform that accommodate other agencies’ systems, users and new applications as the city’s needs expand. The VIDA core network will allow New Bern to easily and affordably update from P25 Phase 1 to P25 Phase 2 over time.
With more than 35 years of proven service to the public safety community, CII is the vendor of choice for many North Carolina agencies, including Johnston County, Hartnett County, Greenville Utilities, Wayne County and Franklin County.
