In Dayton, Trivial Calls to 9-1-1 Costly to Taxpayers
July 18, 2011Dayton, Ohio — An annoying Chihuahua. A routine checkup. A basketball score. A date. These are not reasons to call 9-1-1. Emergency responders are being strained by such inappropriate calls to 9-1-1 and patients who want ambulance rides to hospitals when their medical ailments are less than dire, a Dayton Daily News investigation has found.

July 13, 2011Washington, D.C. — The FCC has enhanced the public’s ability to contact emergency services during times of crisis and to enable public safety personnel to obtain more accurate information regarding the location of the caller. Specifically, the Commission strengthened the E9-1-1 location accuracy rules for wireless carriers and sought comment on improving both 9-1-1 availability and E9-1-1 location determination for VoIP services.
