In 1991, I was in New York City to conduct a course for 9-1-1 instructors. After I entered the building at One Police Plaza, my host pointed to a courtroom just off the lobby. He said it was used for nothing but settling lawsuits against NYC police officers. How terrible that so many allegations of wrongdoing by police exist that they need their own courtroom with a judge dedicated to nothing but cases against those sworn to protect and serve.

Nine Pa. Counties Join to Improve 9-1-1 Emergency Calling Network

October 27, 2011

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Nine counties in Western Pennsylvania are joining forces to save money and offer better 911 service through an Internet-based emergency services network scheduled to be in place by late next year. The system will be used by Armstrong, Butler, Lawrence, Fayette, Indiana, Mercer, Greene, Somerset and Westmoreland counties.

FCC Reminds EAS Participants About Nov. 9 Nationwide EAS Test

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reminds Emergency Alert System (EAS) Participants (e.g., broadcasters, cable operators, satellite radio and television service providers and wireline video service providers) that on November 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), the FCC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first-ever Nationwide EAS Test.
