Interim Director Picked for 911 Center

A veteran of consolidated 911 operations will take over the Delaware County dispatching center on an interim basis, if commissioners approve the appointment this week.
The 911 board, which oversees the center, voted yesterday to appoint Barbara Temple as the interim director. She is a retired Dayton police major who oversaw the consolidation of the Miami County 911 center, which Delaware County used as a model for its consolidation.
In addition, Jay Somerville, who works as the Dublin police technical services bureau director, will assist Temple on an interim basis as an executive consultant.
Salaries and hours for both will be determined by commissioners, who are expected to vote on the appointments on Thursday. Powell Police Chief Gary Vest, 911 board chairman, said he expects the search for a permanent director to begin next year.
Former director Bob Greenlaw resigned last month after three female employees who had been demoted filed complaints alleging discrimination. A county-funded investigation found that the demotions were not punitive but confirmed that Greenlaw made sexual comments and created a hostile workplace.
Still pending are complaints the women made to the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the state Personnel Board of Review.
