9-1-1 to Be Its Own Department

December 29, 2011

Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced Tuesday that the city’s 911 system will become its own department and work closely with fire and police officials. The 911 system, which has been under the Information Technology Department, will become the 911 Public Safety Communication Department with “its own management, its own failure and its own accountability,” Bartlett said during a news conference at City Hall.

Review of the Emergency Alert System

December 29, 2011

SUMMARY: In this document, the Commission amends its rules governing the Emergency Alert System (EAS) rules to extend the deadline for EAS Participants to be able to receive Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)-formatted EAS alerts to no later than June 30, 2012. This is intended to provide EAS Participants with time to comply with any new CAP-based revisions to the Commission’s rules.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Effective December 27, 2011.
