Rohde Announces Resignation from the NG9-1-1 Institute
WASHINGTON–Gregory L. Rohde announced today his resignation as Executive Director of the NG 9-1-1 Institute. Rohde has served as the head of the non-profit organization since its formation in 2003. Rohde will continue to serve through a transition period until a replacement is identified.
Rohde issued the following statement:
“Prior to the formation of the Congressional E9-1-1 Institute, inadequate attention was paid to the importance of 9-1-1 at the national level. Thanks to the dedication of the Congressional NG 9-1-1 Caucus and the support of the organizations and individuals that make up the NG 9-1-1 Institute, the 9-1-1 emergency call number system has become a national priority, gaining the attention this issue deserves from the U.S. Congress, Executive Branch and the Federal Communications Commission. I am grateful to the Co-Chairs of the Congressional NG 9-1-1 Caucus, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Senator Richard Burr (R-SC), Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) for their dedication and leadership to advance 9-1-1 issues. Also, we cannot forget the leadership of Senators Conrad Burns (R-MT), Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and the late Ted Stevens (R-AK) for the role they played to advance the Congressional NG 9-1-1 Caucus when they served as Co-Chairs. It has been a great pleasure working with these leaders and their staff over the past 9 years.
“The strength and security of America is measured by the ability of our local communities to respond to emergencies and protect its citizens in times of need. The 9-1-1 system is central to a community’s health and livability. I have been honored to have had the opportunity to meet many of the men and women who have made it their life’s work to serve their communities through 9-1-1. I salute and thank all the men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting others by serving
9-1-1. There is no higher pursuit in life.”
The NG 9-1-1 Caucus has helped to advanced several critical pieces of legislation including establishing the first ever federal home for 9-1-1, the Implementation Coordination Office (ICO); creating a federal grant program specifically designed to advance 9-1-1 technology and service; and most recently passage of the NG 9-1-1 Advancement Act which provides $115 million to foster the deployment of NG 9-1-1 technology and service.
