Aurora will give a 911 Operator of the Year award for the first time Monday, and Kelley Gruca will be honored. Gruca has been an Aurora 911 operator for 20 years and was chosen by her co-workers to receive the award, which will be given out to coincide with National Telecommunicator Week sponsored by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International. Gruca is one of about 30 operators in Aurora’s 911 center who dispatch police, fire and ambulance calls for Aurora and North Aurora. The award will be given at 3 p.m. Monday at the Aurora police headquarters.
