Prosser Considers Outsourcing Dispatch

PROSSER (Wash) — City officials in Prosser will hold a public comment session April 24 regarding outsourcing the police dispatch center.
The Prosser Police Department currently employs five dispatchers, who field non-emergency phone calls and keep the station open 24 hours a day.
City officials are considering joining the Southeast Communication Center (SECOMM), a Richland-based regional emergency communication network. The move would save $220,000 but cost the five dispatchers their jobs. Meanwhile, the familiar 509-786-1500 phone number would be answered only during business hours.
The City Council discussed the issue with SECOMM officials earlier this month but wanted more public comment before deciding.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
