Senate Panel Rejects 9-1-1 Privacy Measure

A [California] Senate committee has rejected a bill spurred in part by the release of 911 tapes involving Demi Moore.

The bill by Assemblywoman Norma Torres would have barred the news media from getting 911 emergency call audiotapes and transcripts.

Torres, a former emergency dispatcher, was upset with the release of the call describing the actress as shaking and convulsing in a January medical emergency. The Democrat from Pomona said her bill, AB1275, would protect patient privacy.

It cleared the Assembly but failed Tuesday in the Senate Public Safety Committee after news organizations objected.
