LONGMONT, Colo., June 26, 2012— Intrado Inc., a subsidiary of West Corporation and a leading provider of 9-1-1 technology solutions, recently debuted its Emergency Assist solution in the United States. This new service enables a wireless carrier to quickly locate a mobile device even when it is not in use by the subscriber.

Emergency Assist gives law enforcement increased capability to respond to potentially life threatening situations in a timely manner. In a circumstance where a person with a mobile phone needs to be located quickly, their carrier simply inputs a phone number into the automated Emergency Assist tool. The tool then generates the latitude and longitude and a map of the phone’s location.

“Wireless carriers receive a significant number of requests from law enforcement to locate a mobile device when it is in ‘idle’ mode,” said Dami Hummel, vice president and general manager, Intrado. “Today, this is a very manual process that can take up to two weeks to complete. With Emergency Assist, that time can be reduced to a matter of seconds.”

“It is important to note that Emergency Assist follows the subpoena process and only provides such service at the request of law enforcement officials,” said Hummel. “But now, the carriers can comply with these requests more quickly, with fewer resources and improved location accuracy.”

Emergency Assist has been deployed in Canada since December 31, 2011.
