Jackson County Launches New 9-1-1 System

Topeka Capital-Journal (Kansas)

HOLTON – A nearly $500,000 new 911 system was up and running Tuesday in Jackson County that features sophisticated mapping technology and the ability to keep detailed statistics on calls.

Sheriff Tim Morse said the new system replaces one that had been in service since 1993. The prior equipment was aging and failing, he said, but funds weren’t available until local agencies partnered to help secure a federal grant.

The sheriff’s office, in conjunction with the county’s fire department and emergency management office, got a $482,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Morse said additional equipment will be installed in early August and the new generator system later this summer.
