APCO Seeks Comments on Draft Standard Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Training Officer (CTO)
Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International is seeking comments on a Candidate American National Standard (ANS) released today that identifies core competencies and minimum training standards for Public Safety Communications Training Officers.
Candidate APCO ANS 3.101.2-201x is a revision of the original ANS (2007) and focuses on establishing core competencies and minimum training requirements for Communications Training Officers. This position is typically tasked with on-the-job training of agency employees on the essential duties and tasks of a Public Safety Telecommunicator.
“Communications Training Officers play an important role in establishing a foundation of knowledge for our new telecommunicators.” APCO International President Gregg Riddle said.
The public review and comment period is an important step in the standard development process. This provides an opportunity for all interested parties to review and contribute. The draft standard can be downloaded for review. Comments must be submitted by September 3, 2012 to standards@apcointl.org and should include the name of the standard, line number in question, existing text, and proposed resolution.
