A rapid-response solution enabling emergency managers to improve communications during crisis situations and planned events is being showcased today at the APCO Conference and Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The self-contained, deployable solution from Tait enables homeland security regions to provide partial replacement or backup to damaged, destroyed or over-burdened radio communications.

The repeater system supports both 800MHz and VHF frequencies and is situated on a lightweight Aluma Tower trailer to enable rapid and easy deployment. The repeaters are secured in a rugged case and are capable of being used for operation in narrowband analog or digital P25 mode.

Jerry Vargas, Systems Engineer, Tait Communications Americas, says: “The lightweight and easily maneuverable tower allows for efficient storage and fast response to the restoration of communications equipment in an emergency. Once on site, emergency managers can have radios working on the temporary network inside 30 minutes.”

Emergencies can happen in remote areas where radio communications are not used on a regular basis and multiple agencies may be called upon to respond. The repeater tower provides that instant boost of radio coverage in multiple frequencies, which empowers most responders to communicate on their existing radios.
