APCO International September 13, 2012 APCO, Government

Terry Hall, President of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International testified today before the House Homeland Security Committee’s Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications Subcommittee. The hearing, entitled “Resilient Communications: Current Challenges and Future Advancements,” examined a number of topics related to the resilience of public safety communications networks, including the impact of the June “Derecho” storm on 9-1-1 call centers.

In his testimony, President Hall emphasized the need for building resiliency into 9-1-1 networks, including the York County, Virginia Regional Emergency Communications Center where he serves as Chief of Emergency Communications. President Hall also noted how the introduction of Next Generation 9-1-1 technology holds great promise to assure a level of diversity and redundancy that greatly exceeds current capabilities.
