A Golden Gate man is accused of misusing the 911 system after reporting a false battery in an attempt to get Collier County sheriff’s deputies to respond faster to an earlier call he placed, according to an arrest report.

Deputies said John Christopher McDaris, 43, first called around 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, saying that a man in a truck punched him after accusing him of talking to his 12-year-old daughter on Facebook. A deputy took McDaris’ report, then went to find the suspect, according to a report.

At that point, McDaris called 911 again because he did not see deputies at the suspect’s house, a report said. He told dispatchers he had been battered a second time near St. John Neumann High School, although he later said that was a lie.

Deputies noted that McDaris had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. McDaris, of the 5200 block of 32nd Avenue Southwest, faces a misdemeanor charge of misusing the 911 system.
