Durham Emergency Communications Center Chooses Intrado Great Migration for NextGen 9-1-1

Company Representative December 13, 2012 Product & Service Announcements

DURHAM, N.C. Dec. 12, 2012 — The Durham Emergency Communications Center (DECC) and Intrado Inc., a subsidiary of West Corporation and a leading provider of 9-1-1 technology solutions, today announced the next step in providing Durham residents with advanced public safety emergency communications—the selection of the Intrado® Great Migration™. With the Great Migration, DECC will receive a complete, i3-compliant, cloud-based package of NextGen 9-1-1 solutions, including enhanced call routing and image and video delivery.

In August of 2011, the DECC became the first public safety answering point (PSAP) in North Carolina, and the second center in the United States to accept text messages sent to the digits “9-1-1.” This new text-to-9-1-1 capability from Intrado provided the platform the center needed to make further advancements in its 9-1-1 capabilities. Now, the DECC is taking advantage of the affordability, easy deployment and guaranteed i3 compliancy of the Intrado Great Migration to accelerate its move to NextGen 9-1-1.

“The overall cost savings of the Great Migration when compared to our current on-premises solution, along with the guaranteed i3 compliancy and long-term stability and credibility of Intrado made the move to Intrado a safe and easy one,” explained James Soukup, director—DECC. “Intrado is the only 9-1-1 provider in the market today that offers such a comprehensive, cloud-based solution to NextGen 9-1-1.”

The DECC will realize cost savings by moving its PSAP call-taking infrastructure to the Intrado cloud. It will also ensure access to the latest call-handling technology, without up-front spending on capital or on-going hardware maintenance expense.

“We are pleased and excited to have the Durham Emergency Communications Center as one of our initial Great Migration customers,” said Steve Lowe, senior vice president and general manager—Intrado. “We’ve enjoyed a long and productive relationship with DECC, and it’s great to be a key part of this ongoing expansion of their NextGen 9-1-1 capabilities.”
