OAKLAND, Maine — An Oakland woman who had been warned about misusing the 9-1-1 system was arrested early Thursday after making another call without cause, police said.

Roxane Montgomery, 45, is facing a Class E misdemeanor charge of misuse of the E-9-1-1 system, Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said Friday morning.

The crime, which is punishable by up to six months in jail, is a serious matter, Stubbert said.

“The purpose of the law is to keep people off the 9-1-1 system,” Stubbert said. “If [dispatchers] were talking to her there could be an emergency call that’s delayed.”

Police had given Montgomery a warning after she dialed 9-1-1 from her home at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and when she did it again shortly after midnight Thursday, Oakland police Officer Gene Richard and Sgt. Peter Tibbetts arrested her, Stubbert said. She was booked at the police station and later released.

Stubbert said Montgomery was arrested for the same violation in 2012.
