City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County Select Televate to Conduct a Functional & Life-Cycle Audit of the Pikes Peak Regional Communications Network

Company Representative March 19, 2013 Industry

Vienna, VA—Televate LLC, a leading public safety communications and information technology consulting company, today announced that the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County in Colorado awarded a contract to Televate to perform a functional and life-cycle audit of its Pikes Peak Regional Communications Network (PPRCN). The study will determine the current and future communications requirements, network migration options, and financial model required to sustain PPRCN operations.

The PPRCN, the City and County’s shared 800 MHz P25 trunked public safety radio system, faces a major challenge common to many areas across the country – the radio system’s lifecycle is declining at a time when budgets are shrinking. As a result, the PPRCN Executive and Technical Committees are proactively assessing network evolution options and sources of funding to address system lifecycle risks and coverage challenges. Televate’s audit report will primarily advance the PPRCN’s major goals to enhance the P25 radio network capabilities and to develop workable funding solutions both for keeping the system operational and for creating long-range sustainable strategies.

To support these goals, Televate will complete a physical audit of PPRCN network facilities to document the state of the current network infrastructure and functionality, evaluate the current and future needs of the user community, assess the future network architectural options, and establish a robust set of required parameters to guide future network implementation and operations. In conjunction, Televate will calculate capital and operating expenditure requirements and identify potential revenue sources to accommodate sustainable operations.

“Ultimately, this assessment will qualify and quantify the risks of not investing in the PPRCN’s current infrastructure over the next few years,” said Rick Burke, Televate’s managing partner. “By providing a comprehensive audit of where the PPRCN system stands from a functional and operational standpoint, the PPRCN Technical and Executive Committees and the governmental bodies that own the network, will be able to prioritize future network expansion requirements and their use of capital in the most advantageous way.”

“We are highly confident that Televate will deliver a superior report and help this community with an important task – to share a common and realistic vision going forward,” said Dan Gorton, PPRCN system manager.
