Florida Woman Arrested After Calling 9-1-1 Eight Times

External News Source April 8, 2013 Industry

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Police arrested a woman who repeatedly called 9-1-1 to report a burglary at her home.

Daytona Beach police say 43-year-old Dedra Jones called dispatchers to report that her home had been broken into this week. But when police didn’t arrive quickly enough for her, she called again. And again.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Jones now faces charges of abusing the 9-1-1 system.

Records show Jones told dispatchers she knew who took her stuff, that she was going to the suspect’s house and that she needed to talk to a supervisor. The dispatcher told her after the seventh call that she’d be arrested if she kept calling 9-1-1.

An arriving officer says she ignored him because she was calling 9-1-1 for an eighth time. That’s when Jones was arrested.
