The National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (“NPSTC”) has released a brief explaining why public safety cannot use cell phones and smart phones, or the planned nationwide public safety broadband network for their current mission critical voice communications.  “It is important for public officials in particular to appreciate the real differences between commercial cellular voice services and public safety voice communications requirements,” said APCO President Terry Hall.  President Hall continued, “APCO commends NPSTC on its leadership in providing an expert brief explaining in plain terms the mission critical requirements for public safety communications, and why public safety must continue to depend upon public safety land mobile radio systems.”
