External News Source May 15, 2013 Industry, Product & Service Announcements

Columbia Daily Tribune (Missouri)

Columbia/Boone County Public Safety Joint Communications is asking residents to sign up for Smart911, which allows registered information to be accessed by dispatchers and emergency responders.

More than 3,000 cellphone and landline numbers in Columbia and Boone County have been registered with the service, according to a Joint Communications news release. Information that can be registered includes the number of pets in a home or medication information, allergies or health defects.

When a registered phone calls 911, the information is automatically made available to the dispatcher. It is kept private and is only viewable when the registered user calls 911, the news release said. The information is only available for the time necessary to address the emergency.

To register, go to www.Smart911.com.
