North Carolina: Moore County Home Burns During 9-1-1 Outage

External News Source August 12, 2013 Industry

VASS, N.C. (AP) — A home in Moore County has burned down while the county’s 9-1-1 system was not working.

A neighbor told WRAL-TV that he tried to call 9-1-1 early Sunday but got no answer. He also couldn’t get anyone to answer an emergency number at the sheriff’s office. He finally called “(asterisk)HP” and the highway patrol got a message to the fire department.

The neighbor says it took about 15 minutes to get a fire truck to the home in Vass even though the nearest fire station is 2 miles away.

No one was inside the house, and no injuries were reported.

Authorities say the 9-1-1 system in Moore County was down for about three hours. They are investigating what happened with the system.
