79th Annual APCO Conference Gets Underway with First General Business Meeting

Second vice presidential candidate Brent Lee addresses the APCO membership during Sunday’s first general business meeting.
The first general business meeting of APCO 2013 convened today in the Grand Ballroom of the Anaheim (Calif.) Marriott. First Vice President Gigi Smith opened the meeting by announcing the new regional and CAC representatives of the Board of Directors for 2013-2014.
Immediate Past President Greg Riddle then took the stage to lead the voting for confirmation of eight new life members, among them Gigi Smith. Following the unanimous confirmation of life members, regulatory counsel Bob Gurss provided the group with an update on FCC matters. Beginning Sep. 30, bounceback messages will be required to people who attempt to text 9-1-1 but are not serviced by a PSAP with SMS capabilities. The bounceback messages will instruct the texter to call 9-1-1 with their emergency.
A resolution clarifying policy for senior and life membership credentials was brought before the quorum and approved for a vote during the second general business meeting, to be held on Tuesday at 3:45 Pacific time, also in the Marriott’s Grand Ballroom.
Closing the meeting were remarks from second vice presidential candidate Brent Lee. Lee spoke about his life memberships in the Nevada chapter and international chapter, various committee work, and subject expertise. He said last year’s close vote solidified his determination to run again for the honor of second vice president.
Online voting for both first and second vice presidents is open until Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. Pacific. Results will be announced during the second general business meeting.
