Cassidian Communications Expands Operations in Gatineau, Quebec

Agency Representative September 23, 2013 Industry, Product & Service Announcements

Gatineau, Quebec (Sept. 23, 2013) – Cassidian Communications, an EADS company, announced today that it is significantly expanding its operations in Gatineau, Quebec. Gatineau, already a major research and development (R & D) center for Cassidian Communications’ 9-1-1 portfolio, will now include R & D resources for the company’s Land Mobile Radio (LMR) division. In addition to growing its workforce, Cassidian Communications is also moving to a new 53,170-square-foot facility, further increasing its investment in Gatineau and the local community.

Cassidian Communications, a leader in public safety for over 40 years, provides solutions for NG9-1-1 call taking, emergency notification and LMR. The workforce expansion along with the new facility allows the company to provide LMR maintenance, support, integration and validation functions in one location. “By expanding our operations we are able to offer the highest level of support and service to our North American customers and public safety organizations,” says Bob Freinberg, Cassidian Communications CEO.

The company made the announcement today at a press conference at their new location at 200 boul. de la Technologie. Cassidian Communications’ new Gatineau facility houses 145 employees that address the critical skills sets for 9-1-1 and LMR.

“By growing our operations in Gatineau, Cassidian Communications is reinforcing our commitment both to the region and to developing quality, life-saving technology for our customers in Canada and the U.S.,” said François Begaud, chief operating officer for Land Mobile Radio, Cassidian Communications. “I look forward to the critical and life-saving advancements the employees in Gatineau will produce for North America.”

Cassidian Communications’ P25 LMR systems are robust radio networks used daily by police, fire and other first responders to communicate with each other and public safety officials coordinating emergency responses. The systems are fully compliant with the P25 standard and non-proprietary, supporting “true choice” in radios and other critical subsystem components from a variety of vendors. For the last three years, the Gatineau office has overseen the Cassidian Communications Interoperability Test Program, simulating scenarios and conditions encountered in the field in order to validate the performance of third-party components in normal and abnormal conditions.

Among other organizations across Canada, Cassidian Communications’ P25 LMR technology is used by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s (RCMP) “O” Division, which serves Ontario. The first phase of the two-phase roll out was completed in less than seven months in advance of the Group of Eight (G8) and Group of Twenty (G20) summits held in Toronto in 2010. During the summits, more than 2,500 LMR terminals were used to make more than 58,000 radio transmissions per day. The second phase expands this network province wide to serve the more than 1,500 members and employees of the “O” Division.
