APCO Congratulates Rear Admiral David Simpson as the New FCC Public Safety Bureau Chief

Alexandria, VA – Today, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler named Rear Admiral David Simpson as the new Chief of the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. Chairman Wheeler also announced that former Bureau Chief David Turetsky will take on a new role as Coordinator of an informal task force on the FCC response to international disasters.

“APCO welcomes and congratulates Rear Admiral Simpson on his appointment as the new Chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau,” said APCO President Gigi Smith. President Smith continued, “Admiral Simpson brings an impressive level of experience to the Commission and we look forward to working with him in carrying out the Bureau’s mission. Further, Admiral Simpson’s expertise in cybersecurity is of particular importance, as APCO recognizes the necessity of protecting public safety communications systems from existing and emerging cyber threats.”

“APCO sincerely appreciates and thanks David Turetsky for his service, and welcomes him in his new role as Coordinator for response to international disasters,” said President Smith.
