Florida Man Charged With Misuse of 9-1-1 System
Palm Beach Post (Florida)
Patrick Chery thought the problem was worth a call to 9-1-1. Village police thought otherwise.
They arrested the 20-year-old Thursday for making two non-emergency calls stemming from a fight with his older brother over an Xbox.
Chery is facing a charge of misuse of the 9-1-1 system. He was being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bail Saturday morning.
According to a police report, officers arrived shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday to a home in the 2600 block of Lorraine Court, north of Northlake Boulevard and west of Prosperity Farms Road.
After the argument with his brother , Chery had told his family he was moving out, then gathered his belongings and walked outside.
There, he called 9-1-1 and said he needed help, police said.
After determining Chery was not in danger, an officer warned him that 9-1-1 was for emergencies only and advised him not to misuse it.
As the officer walked back to a patrol vehicle, Chery allegedly called 9-1-1 again and said he needed fire rescue assistance.
This time, Chery was arrested and taken to jail.
Chery has been arrested several times in the past year on charges of drug possession, possession of forged currency and altering identification on a firearm.
