APCO Announces ANSI Approval of Standard Public Safety Communications Instructors

APCO International February 6, 2014 Industry, Product & Service Announcements

Alexandria, VA –The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval from ANSI on February 3, 2014 for an American National Standard (ANS) that identifies “core competencies and minimum training standards for public safety communications instructor.”

APCO ANS 3.108.1-2014 defines the core competencies and minimum training requirements of the individual who is generally tasked with delivering training within the communications center. The purpose of this standard is to provide a consistent foundation for the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fulfill this critical function. This standard recognizes the need to supplement the training and core competencies identified within this standard with agency specific information.

“This standard identifies specific training requirements for instructors, which will elevate the quality of training public safety telecommunicators receive,” said APCO President Gigi Smith.

The standard can be downloaded at http://www.apcointl.org/standards/apco-standards-for-download.html.
