WELD COUNTY, CO – Today, the Weld County Board of Commissioners hosted an open house celebration for the new Weld County Regional Communications Center (WCRCC). The event, which was open to the public, was held at the Center’s new location, 1551 N. 17th Ave. in Greeley, Colo.

The 10,316-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including Next Generation 9-1-1 capability, WeatherTap HD future weather radar, and the Front Range Communications Consortium (FRCC) Radio System.

“This is a vitally important day for Weld County,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, who also serves as chair of the E911 Authority Board, which provided a portion of the funding for the new center. “The county and the E911 Board are proud of the technology incorporated in this center, and we are proud to offer the best service possible to our Weld County residents and visitors with regard to public safety communication.”
The center, which will be fully operational on February 12, cost approximately $4 million.

“The teamwork involved in making this center a reality was impressive,” said Commissioner Chairman Douglas Rademacher. “From the E911 Board, to the Public Safety Communications team to the Buildings and Grounds crew to the vendors who proudly installed state-of-the-art equipment in the center, everyone has worked together to make this a reality for the residents of Weld County.”

The WCRCC is the second largest Emergency Communications Center in the state of Colorado, serving 41 law, fire, and medical agencies. It covers approximately 4,000 square miles in and outside of Weld County. Public Safety Communications is comprised of 71 staff members, including 53 communications dispatchers.

In October 2013, the WCRCC was awarded one of the highest honors a center can achieve: the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE). It is the 180th ACE Center in the world.
