Calhoun County (W.Va.) E-911 Implements APCO EMD
Alexandria, Va. – Residents in Mount Zion, WV, now have the added strength of the APCO Institute’s Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) behind their 9-1-1 call center because Calhoun County E-911 recently implemented the program.
The APCO Institute EMD Program, based on EMD guide cards and software, is a systematic way to manage emergency medical service (EMS) resources in an organized and effective manner and to provide medical assistance to callers, when needed, until medically trained field response units arrive at the scene.
“The transition has gone very smoothly thanks to APCO’s support,” said Kathryn Wood, Calhoun County E-911.
The Calhoun County E-911 Center has one manager, one mapping coordinator and eight telecommunicators that receive a call volume of approximately 500 calls a month.
“The APCO Institute welcomes the Calhoun County E-911 Center as an EMD User Agency and looks forward to working with their staff to provide EMD services to their area,” said APCO Institute Director Julie Troutman.
