Chapter News: Orange County (Calif.) and Cobb County (Ga.)
The California Public Safety Radio Association (CPRA) held its monthly meeting on March 20, at Loma Ridge, California. The ridge is located 13,000 ft above sea level, and makes a perfect location for the Orange County Sheriff’s dispatch facility. The land, first purchased by Irvine Land Company in the early 90’s, has provided great radio coverage for coordinating radio traffic for all law enforcement and fire agencies throughout the county.
On April 17th, CPRA public safety communicators were given a surprise visit from APCO Vice President John Wright, who attended a meeting where APCO Senior Member certificates were awarded to Tim Trager, Communications Department, San Bernardino County and Robert Stoffel, Director, Orange County Sheriffs Communications.
Less than a month later, Cobb County (Ga.) 9-1-1 held its 2014 Awards Picnic. Each year, the Awards Committee evaluates calls under specific criteria, and from its assessment awards are given in the following categories: Lifesaving, Team Recognition, Stork Award, Community Outreach, Training Officer and the Directors Award. On May 3rd, in beautiful spring weather, awards were presented in front of ninety employees and their families. Fire Chief/Acting Public Safety Director of Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services, Sam Heaton, helped present the awards.
