APCO Seeks Comments on Standard for the Establishment of a Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Program

APCO International May 23, 2014 APCO

Alexandria, VA –Today, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International released for comments a Candidate American National Standard (APCO / NENA 1.107.1-201x) that identifies the process for the Establishment of a Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Program for Public Safety Answering Points.

The purpose of this document is to assist public safety communications centers with the establishment, implementation and maintenance of a quality assurance and quality improvement program. Recommended minimum requirements for the evaluation and quality assurance of call processing are offered to ensure an effective and efficient level of service.

“Quality assurance plays a critical role in maintaining consistency and ensuring that emergency calls are handled appropriately,” said APCO International President Gigi Smith.

The public review and comment period is an important step in the standard development process.  This provides an opportunity for all interested parties to review and contribute. The draft standard can be downloaded for review at http://www.apco911.org/standards/call-to-action-review-a-comment.html.

Comments must be submitted via e-mail to standards@apcointl.org by July 7, 2014.
