Harris Corporation has announced a new public safety communications system for Macon-Bibb County, Ga.  The new public safety radio system will be used by more than 1,200 public safety personnel, including the Macon fire department, EMA, and the newly consolidated Bibb County sheriff’s office.

The standards-based Harris system is a P25 (APCO Project 25) Phase 2 digital system and provides public safety agencies with enhanced communications, clarity and interoperability. The full implementation of the new Macon-Bibb County system clears the way for a two Monroe and Peach counties to leverage the system for a three-county mid-Georgia regional P25 network.

The project includes Harris BeOn mobile application that extends the benefits of the P25 Phase 2 system by enabling communications on the system from a mobile device anywhere there is cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
