APCO Announces Approval of Standard for Multi-Functional, Multi-Discipline, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Minimum Functional Requirements

APCO International February 3, 2015 APCO

Alexandria, VA –The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval from ANSI on January 7, 2015 for an American National Standard (ANS) that identifies Multi-Functional,  Multi-Discipline,  Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Minimum Functional Requirements.

APCO ANS 1.110.1-2015 identifies the minimum functional requirements that a CAD system must include, broken down by public safety discipline, as well as optional functional requirements that should be included. Minimum and optional functional requirements are identified for multi-discipline law, fire and EMS CAD systems, law enforcement only CAD systems, fire only CAD systems, EMS only CAD systems, and combined fire/EMS CAD systems.

The standard includes the Unified CAD Functional Requirement (UCADFR) as an attachment. The UCADFR provides a comprehensive list of CAD functional requirements that can be used by public safety communications centers to assist with the Request for Proposal process when a need exists to conduct a solicitation for a new CAD System or an upgrade to an existing CAD system.

“Approval of the minimum functional requirements for CAD systems by ANSI brings to fruition  an enormously long term effort by APCO’s Emerging Technologies & Standards Development Committees, and the APCO/IJIS Institute UCAD project team,” said APCO President John Wright. “The level of effort invested in this effort by the numerous volunteer subject-matter-experts is commendable. This standard provides a blueprint for CAD providers and will assist PSAPs as new systems or upgrades are needed.”
