John Horst of Woodside, NY died in his home on March 30, 2015, after a brave and noble battle with brain cancer. He was 59.

John was born on October 30, 1955. He graduated from Avionics High School and continued to further his career, starting at Trans World Airlines and settling into his final profession as the FCC Licensing Coordinator for the New York Police Department. To say John was a dedicated professional would be an understatement; the pride he had in his job was insurmountable. He inspired others with his continuous hard work, his thorough attention to detail, and his unwavering diligence as a professional.

Not only was John a dedicated worker, but he was a devoted father. From his weekend trips to Boston to visit his daughter and her husband, to the times he spent showing his children New York City, and the Saturdays with his son Joe and his wife Gretchen, John always arrived ready to cook and feed those he loved, while basking in the simple pleasures of time with family. No Christmas went by without John’s famous spinach pie, and no warm weather occurred without John grilling fresh meats and vegetables for whoever would eat it. John fed his family with great food, great music, and an appreciation for spending time together. He was a loving father in the truest sense.

John is survived by his children Amanda Laprime and Joe Horst; his sister Brenda Holbrook and brother-in-law Guy Holbrook; his son-in-law Jean-Robert Laprime and daughter-in-law Gretchen VanHorst; and his granddaughter, Rosemary Laprime. John is preceded in death by his mother and father, Rose and Tony Horst , and his grandmother, Millie.

A memorial for John will take place on April 4th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Francisco’s Funeral Home in Ozone Park, NY.
