APCO Seeks Comments on Draft Standard Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Telecommunicator
Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International is seeking comments on a Candidate American National Standard (ANS) released today that identifies minimum training requirements for the public safety telecommunicators.
This standard revision identifies minimum training requirements for both new and veteran Public Safety Telecommunicators. This position is typically tasked with receiving, processing, transmitting, and conveying public safety information to dispatchers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical and emergency management personnel. This document seeks to define training in certain knowledge and skills for the Agency to provide to Telecommunicators.
“APCO is a pioneer in the development of training standards for public safety communications. Routine review and revision of our standards ensure essential training requirements are up to date and relevant” said John Wright, president of APCO International.
The public review and comment period is an important step in the standard development process. This provides an opportunity for all interested parties to review and contribute. The draft standard can be downloaded for review at: https://www.apcointl.org/standards/standards-call-to-action/.
Comments must be submitted by May 25, 2015 to standards@apcointl.org and should include the name of the standard, line number in question, existing text, and proposed resolution.
