Silent Key: Randell “Randy” Zentz

APCO International October 30, 2015 APCO

Randell “Randy” Zentz, 49, of Palm Coast, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a five-year battle with cancer on Oct. 12, 2015.

ZentzRandell-170Zentz was born in Buffalo, New York, on July 29, 1966, and moved to the Daytona area at the age of 2. He began his career as a telecommunicator for the city of Daytona Beach in 1987, continuing there until the communications center consolidated with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Communications in 2004. Zentz continued in his role as a telecommunicator with the sheriff’s office; and in 2008 he became the assistant communications coordinator working with Glenn Lopez until his early retirement due to his illness. Zentz was instrumental in configuring the sheriff’s office CAD system during the county-wide consolidation.

Zentz was a long-time member of APCO, a member of the Regional Domestic Security Taskforce Interoperable Communications sub-committee and participated in the inaugural Operation Radar statewide communications exercise, as well as the Region 5 exercise. He also served as the coordinator for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Post.

Zentz is survived by his wonderful wife of 28 years, Connie, and their son, Tyler, along with his parents and brother.

Those who had the opportunity to get to know him understand what a truly remarkable person he was with a generous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by many.
