APCO Releases Standard for Public Review and Comment

APCO International January 7, 2016 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International released the following standard for public review and comment: APCO / NPSTC 1.104.2-201x Standard Channel Nomenclature for the Public Safety Interoperability Channels.

The revision and re-designation process occurs every five years for all American National Standards. This ensures that all standards are up to date with current trends in operations, training and technology.

The public safety community uses spectrum allocated by the FCC and NTIA in multiple bands that is replete with interoperability channels. It is necessary to develop and employ a common set of channel names so that all responders to an incident know which channel to tune their radios to, as well as the band and primary use for the channel.

“This update continues APCO’s legacy of providing support to interoperability at multiple levels.” said Brent Lee, President of APCO International.

The public review and comment period is an important step in the standard development process. This provides an opportunity for all interested parties to review and contribute. The draft standard can be downloaded for review and comments may be submitted at https://workspace.apcointl.org/kws/public/document?document_id=16&wg_abbrev=operational.

Comments on this candidate standard must be submitted by February 8, 2016.
