Silent Key: Raymond L. Collins

APCO International March 31, 2016 APCO

Raymond L. Collins, 83, passed away on March 15, 2016, in San Jose, Calif. He was a member of the Northern California Chapter of APCO.

Raymond_Collins_combinerCollins was born on May 25, 1932. He co-founded Telewave, Inc., in 1972 to provide custom-built filtering equipment not widely available at the time. He was a past president of the Communications Marketing Association and a Fellow of the Radio Club of America.

He grew up in Yakima, Wash., and worked for several local radio stations in the 1950s. He served in the Army and National Guard, and worked for RCA and Motorola as a territory manager in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years following his military service.

“Ray Collins was an extraordinary individual, and his passing is a great loss to our company and the industry,” said Telewave, Inc. Chief Operations Officer Dave Mexicano. “We are committed to honoring Ray’s legacy of high quality and exemplary customer support. Telewave has a strong management team in place, and we are fortunate to have many long-time employees, some who have been with the company for over 30 years.”

He is survived by his wife, Isabella, two children, four step-children, two brothers and extended family. The family suggests donations in Mr. Collins’ name to the Radio Club of America, or a favorite charity.
