Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP) Program Updates from Texas

APCO International April 14, 2016 Uncategorized

Grand Prairie, Tex., Implements ASAP
The Grand Prairie, Tex., 9-1-1 PSAP is the newest PSAP and third in Texas to launch the ASAP program. Grand Prairie went live with the ASAP program on March 21, 2016. Grand Prairie uses a SunGard ONESolution CAD system. Eight alarm-monitoring central stations are currently live with Grand Prairie. ADT will be in production with Grand Prairie in the upcoming weeks.

ADT Goes Live with Houston, Tex.
ADT began sending alarm transmissions to the Houston Emergency Center on March 22, 2016. In less than 24 hours after ADT went live with Houston, David Cutler, director of the Houston Emergency Center, reported an astounding 86 percent increase in the number of ASAP events created by alarm-monitoring companies. Houston is on track to achieve $1,000,000 in hard savings with improved service to the alarm-monitoring companies and alarm holders. With ADT’s participation, Cutler has estimated a projected 70,000 ten-digit telephone call volume reduction per month. ADT accounts for an estimated 35,000 of that 70,000.

Cutler added, “I am very excited by ADT’s adoption of ASAP.”

About ASAP
The ASAP Alarm Interface is based on the APCO/CSAA 2.101.2-2014 American National Standard for alarm monitoring companies to directly transmit alarm event data into the appropriate CAD system. This direct computer to computer interface dramatically reduces alarm response times and human error by removing the requirement for a voice call between the alarm monitoring company and the 9-1-1 center. In addition, it frees up valuable telecommunicator time to answer 9-1-1 calls and assist other callers. The standard is available for download at APCO/CSAA 2.101.2-2014 American National Standard.
